Career Studies Career Studies

 Welcome to Career Studies

In Career Studies we will explore the students interests in different careers to help them choose a career path before leaving high school.  Our goal for the student is for them to achieve proficiency in decision making and problem solving is an essential skill for career planning and lifelong learning. Students use self-knowledge, educational, and career information to set and achieve realistic career and educational goals.

We will create a digital and hard copy portfolio with resume's, letters required to apply for employment, identify existing skills & skills required for their chosen field as well as other requirements of different fields.  We will work on interview skills and expectations of the job hunt and the different ways to find employment.  We will explore salaries, budgeting, personal financial decisions and problem solving concerning the work place environment.

We will be using several different websites

Career Research Project

Using the link below to get started and the handout as well look at the companies listed for the big companies in all the industries listed, click on the company icon or name, look at the jobs they have listed, though not all have jobs due to the economy.  Find 10 that have jobs that you would be interested in, now or later.  List the company and the job.

Monday--October 12

IF you are finished with your resume, login to the 2nd set of prep testing with the Texas Workforce Commission using the following link:  http://www.texasworkprep.com/saw.htm.  Use headphone where necessary to listen to videos on this site but NOT to music.  IF you have not yet finished your resume, preferrably using the Career Cruising Website, then work on that and I will come around and help you where I can.  You can NOT play games or be on any other internet souces.

Tuesday--October 13

You will have 3 worksheets to do on Advertisement Abbreviations, plus another on vocabulary.  You will have a test on these next week.

IF you are completely finished with your project you will now register with the TWC, Texas Workforce Commission to take a course in the 6 Step Job Hunt Model.  This is a 1.5 hour course with a certificate given upon completion.  And yes everyone will take this short course even though it is designed for those actively job hunting.  You must receive the certificate to get the test grade.  You will need to print this certificate and I want a copy so print 2 one for yourself and 1 for me.  The link is below.  http://www.texasworkprep.com/jhg.htm  You can copy and paste it into a browser and then click the button to register as a new user in the top right corner.
