We will be reading 11 novels in class.  Please do not read ahead!  In addition, students are expected to read at least 1 book a month at home.  At the end of each of 9 months, they are expected to take and pass an AR ( Accelerate Reader ) Test on a book that they read independently at home.  Four of those books -- 1 book per quarter, will be used to complete the Quarterly Book Project.

This means that students will read at least 9 books at home this year!  This will ensure that we achieve Georgia's Performance Standard ELA6RC1 which requires that each student reads a minimum of 25 grade-level appropriate books from a variety of genres and subject areas. 

If students commit to this goal, then the 9 books they read at home, together with the 11 in-class novels, and their various textbooks will help us surpass the goals of the state!
