WEEK 05-11 TO 05-15

Welcome back!

We are winding down the year and finishing with our unit in Mythology!  Students have been given graphic organizers to help them keep up with all of the gods and Titans.  Please help them learn the names.

Technology:  Students should have set up and be using their Yahoo accounts.  They have been shown how to use the "chat" feature. This will help them with the assignments as it enables them to collaborate and ask each other questions.  They should have received an e-mail that contains their assignments.  Please pay attention to the due dates!  Good luck, and I will talk to you online!

HOW CAN YOU HELP YOUR CHILD THIS WEEK?

  • Ask leading questions like:

            * What on earth is an Oxymoron (substitute any other element)?

            * Read a passage from the newspaper or your favorite book, and

ask, "Who is the narrator?" or "What voice is this being told in?"

            * After watching a movie ask, "Who was the antagonist?" and

              "Who was the protagonist?"

            * What is the difference between an abstract and a concrete

               noun?

            * Can you give me an example of each type of noun?

            * What are the seven types of Pronouns?

            * Can you explain the differences between them?

            *  What are the different types of modifiers?

            *  What are the different types of Adjectives?

            *  What are Adverbs and what is their purpose?

            *  What is a Preposition and how are the phrases formed?

            *  What is an Adjective Phrase / Adverbial Phrase?

            *  What do they modify?

            *  What is the function of the Object of the Preposition?

            *  What is a Linking Verb? How does it function?

            *  What are the Verb & Subject Compliments?

            *  What are Predicate Adjectives / Predicate Nominatives?  How do

                you identify them?

            *  What are Direct Objects / Indirect Objects?  How do you identify

                them?

            *  What is a Complex Sentence?  What are the formulas?

            *  What are the Subordinate Conjunctions?  What purpose do they

serve?  How are they related to Relative Pronouns?

  • Use the STUDY PLAN!!!

CHECKPOINT FOR READING:

Just because there are no book logs due, doesn't mean you don't need to read.  Reading strengthens your mind!  When you stop reading, your mind becomes weak!
