Herrin’s Happenings February 10, 2012 Curriculum Highlights: Well, according to Mr. Groundhog... Spring is right around the corner! THANK YOU for supporting our in-school field trip, High Touch High Tech – Georgia-ology! Fabulous program!!! Hopefully you enjoyed reading about the experience in your child’s Go Home Journal. They all summarized what they had learned. Thursday, February 16th – Celebration Day for Camp Creek Elementary School!!! We have earned the GOLD MEDAL AWARD from the governor. This is the 7th year we have earned this award (either gold or silver) for being the highest performing school on the CRCT. Students, please wear yellow or gold to school on February 16th. It will be a very special day for all of us! February 16th is also Mrs. Miniscalco’s birthday! She is doing such a great job as our student teacher. Mark your calendars for Friday, February 24th. 3rd grade will be having a Hoedown! It will begin at 9:00 a.m. in the gym. Students, come to school wearing overalls, jeans, skirts, a country western shirt, etc... and be ready to dance! Parents, our room mothers have purchased cowboy hats and bandanas. So you do not need to worry about that part. Just bring your cameras and video cameras! Coming home today in the Friday Folder is a CRCT Online Practice Log. This record sheet has been designed for the students to record their scores when taking the online practice tests at home. I HIGHLY encourage all of the students to take some time to complete the CRCT online practice tests. It is an invaluable resource as it familiarizes the students the format of each subtest in Reading, Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Any student who returns the completed log on or before Wednesday, April 18th will receive 2 Positive Paws for a JOB WELL DONE! We will have our Valentine’s Day Party on Tuesday, February 14th at 2:00. Thank you to our room mothers for planning another wonderful party! Please make sure that if your child brings valentines and/or candy... he/she needs to bring in one for every student. We have 24 students in our class. Thanks, everyone! I sent home information regarding our Parent/Teacher Conferences on Monday of this week. Please let me know if there is a conflict with your scheduled date and time. Our Early Release Days are on Monday, February 27th and Tuesday, February 28th. I am really looking forward to meeting with everyone! The February conference schedule is posted on our class webpage. Our Interim 3 Benchmark Testing will begin on February 27th. The tests will be administered online in the computer lab. Help Needed... I have loaned a few of the media center books to my students, and they are now missing. Please check your bookbags and rooms at home for these books: Enemy Pie, Liar, Liar Pants on Fire, Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon, and Curious George Feeds the Animals. I could really use some help in finding these four books. Thanks, everyone! New Study Island Assignments – Due Date - 2/29/12. Reading/Social Studies: “Thunder Cake” (in your new reading book) Biography – Thurgood Marshall Skill: Cause and Effect Word Study: Suffix “-ly” Word List – slowly, merrily, happily, wisely, quickly, gently, softly, carefully, cheaply, lazily Writing/Grammar – Daily Oral Language Sentences (to be edited) ***These DOL sentences are being given to the students to keep in their binders to study throughout the week. We will continue to work hard on our class Grammar book this week! Thank you to those people who have already sent in orders! Math: Unit #7 Multiplication/Division(Please see the Unit #7 Every Day Math Parent Letter on my webpage.) Health: Health Extra Credit Project for the 3rd Nine Weeks - Nutrition (Students will receive an"E" in Health if Extra Credit is completed and demonstrates effort and thought.) Upcoming Tests: Thursday, February 16th: Reading Test: “Thunder Cake” (from our reading book) ***We will not have any other tests this week. Newsflash… We have a 93.3 average percent correct so far for the 3rd nine weeks! And we have passed 240 tests! Announcements: We are working hard on our 2nd class book! This one will be focusing on our grammar vocabulary. Your children are truly becoming grammar experts! Ask your child to talk to you about this!
