Standardized Testing in Cody Middle School Standardized tests are given as a common measure to determine whether or not a student is proficient in areas of learning critical for academic success. The Stanford Achievement Test is given in October, 2007, and has a national reference so that our students can be compared with other students their age across the country. This is a "norm-referenced test." Mid March to mid April, 2008, the PAWS test will be given in order to determine whether or not a student is proficient in the Wyoming State Standards at their grade level.
Study Skills for test taking - Why does taking three slow, deep breaths help before taking a test? It changes brain chemistry which, in turn, helps to relax and focus on the task. Standardized Tests True or False - If any part of the question is false, the answer is false. At the same time, words like often and may usually signal that a statement is true. Multiple Choice - With these questions, it's important that your middle grader read every choice before choosing an answer. This will allow ruling out answers known to be wrong. Using this strategy, your child may have two options to pick from instead of five. This increases the chance of selecting the correct answer. Essay Questions - Most students find this kind of question to be the toughest. Encourage your child to read each question at least twice before answering. Then with the question fresh in mind, they might list a few thoughts to include in the answer. Making notes keeps them from having to remember everything at once. Have them look at the list if they get stuck.
