RULES IN CLASSROOM CLASSROOM RULES

< td>

                                                                            September 2010

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Good Afternoon!  I wanted to inform you of a special activity that we participated in– setting up this year’s “Class Expectations.”  We discussed what expectations are and enjoyed a shared writing activity in which the students brainstormed five appropriate expectations or guidelines we should follow throughout the year in our classroom.  They are as follows:

1) Be a good listener.

2) Keep hands/feet to self.

3) Be kind.

4) Clean up after yourself.

5) Share.

Rewards:

-         Students are rewarded individually.  They can earn GLYNNBUCKS when they exhibit positive behaviors and set good examples for one another.  Our classroom will function as a working economy.  Students can choose to spend their GLYNNBUCKS on items such as mechanical pencils (5 GLYNNBUCKS), erasers (10 GLYNNBUCKS).  They can save for Webkinz sitting (20 GLYNNBUCKS) or a homework pass (20 GLYNNBUCKS).

-         Students are rewarded in groups.  The class is divided into 4 tables, which I like to refer to as “teams.”  When each team exhibits good teamwork and good readiness skills, they are rewarded with a tally.  The team that earns the most tallies at the end of the week earns lunch with me in the classroom.

-         Students are rewarded as a whole class.  The class can earn a scoop of popcorn kernels when: they receive a compliment from another teacher, they exhibit excellent listening skills as a whole group, and when each student is following all of our “Class Expectations” at the same time.  When the popcorn bin fills up with kernels, the class will have earned a “free” afternoon, where we will have popcorn and a movie!

Consequences:

-         Students start with their names off of the “Room 2 Traffic Light”.  If they receive a warning, their name goes onto the green light.

-         If they receive a second warning, their name goes onto the yellow light.  This will result in a loose of 5 minutes of recess.

-         If they receive a 3rd warning, their name goes onto the red light and this will result in a loose of recess for the day

-         If they receive a 4th warning their names will be removed from the traffic light followed with a phone call home.

We have agreed on the expectations, rewards, and consequences and each student signed their name as a commitment to positive classroom behavior.  Please feel free to discuss them with your child.

Thank you,
