About Mrs. Deer About Mrs. Deer

Hello!  I am so glad you have checked out my webpage!  I would like to take this opportunity to let you get to know me a bit better.

Let me start at the beginning...where all stories start!  I grew up in the Village of Nassau and attended Donald P. Sutherland School from kindergarten through fourth grade.

After spending many nights doing extra handwriting homework, I moved on to the fifth and the sixth grade where I enjoyed meeting new friends, learning new things, and many Friday Activity Nights at Genet Middle School (now an elementary school).  While in sixth grade I fell in love with running after winning my first half mile race.

Moving onto Goff Middle School, where I attended seventh and eighth grade, I continued running by joining the Cross Country, Indoor, and Outdoor Track teams.

Columbia High School is where I spent my last four years as a student-athlete in the East Greenbush Central School District.  When I had to decide what I wanted to pursue as degree in college, I thought back to my days at DPS and I knew I wanted to be a teacher.

I attended The College of Saint Rose, after a year and a half at The University at Albany, to obtain a degree in Special Education and Elementary Education.  I continued running in college as well by joining the Cross Country team and qualifying for Divison II NCAA Nationals.   I decided to continue my education there and obtain my Master's Degree in Literacy.

It was while I was pursuing my Master's Degree when I met my wonderful husband John. (Go ahead and laugh).  We have been happily married since August 11, 2006.

This summer my husband and I welcomed a new addition to our family.  On August 13, 2008 we had a baby girl and named her Olivia Brenda.  We are enjoying every minute with her and are fascinated by watching her grow!

This winter we will be welcoming a baby boy into our family!  There will be another John Deer in the world in late January. We will officially name him John Casey Deer and we will be calling him Jack.  My husband, daughter, and I are all very excited!

John is also a runner and we have enjoyed running many races together like the local Rotary Run in Schodack, the Brenda Deer Memorial Race in Guilderland, Stockade-athon 15K in Schenectady, and the Race for the Cure 5K in Albany just to name a few.  We have also traveled to many places to run races like Utica to run the Boilermaker 15K, and Ottawa, Canada to run our favorite marathon, the ING Ottawa Marathon. John even got to run the New York City Marathon.  Maybe we will see you out there running some day!
