Welcome to Mrs. Connors’ 6th Grade Literature Class! The focus of our literature class is on developing critical thinking skills which will involve forming ideas, as opposed to just locating answers within a text. This will require participation in both whole and small group discussion and a significant amount of writing. We will be reading several classroom novels as well as selections from the literature textbooks. You will experience a variety of genres, including historical fiction, fantasy, mystery/adventure, nonfiction, realistic fiction, and biographies. My goals this year are to increase your fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and critical thinking skills, but most of all I hope you develop a life-long love of reading!! We send out a weekly e-mail to inform parents what we are doing in class. If you would like to be on that list and are not, please notify me at connorsk@mustangps.org
HOMEWORK - READ AT LEAST ONE HOUR PER WEEK - OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL!!!! 75% of your child's grade will be class work - (25% Test Scores and 50% daily work) and 25% of your child's grade will come from independent reading. I know we are all busy, but please read and talk with your child about his or her book. This greatly improves comprehension, and it can be a wonderful time for parent and child! |
