Mrs. Branson's Highlights I will be sending a note home each week to inform you of the week’s activities and assignments. Please check your child’s folder and sign the calendar each day. Help your child remember to complete homework and return it the next day along with important papers you may need to sign. Spelling – The spelling list will be in your child’s folder each Monday. Here are some ways to help your child study throughout the week: Monday – write the words three times each. Tuesday – read and spell each word orally. Wednesday – give your child a written test. Thursday – Practice Test Friday – TEST * If student makes a 100% on practice test they do not have to take the Test on Friday. Reading –Please listen to your child read ten to fifteen minutes each day. Learn the sight words, vocabulary words, and word lines as they are sent home. Keep the lists and review from time to time. *Paperback decodable books that go along with the phonics lessons will be sent home in an envelope almost every week. Listen to your child read these books. It helps build fluency to read them over and over. Keep them in a safe place. By the end of the year your child will have a good collection. Return the envelope signed to let me know your child has read the book to you. (Keep the books at home) Math – Please review class work and do homework each night. The homework reinforces skills learned in class and will better prepare the children for the SOL tests in the spring. Writing – practice cursive handwriting. Write sentences and stories. (Example-write about what you learn each day). Social Studies and Science Mrs. Branson will teach social studies and Ms. Hawthorne will teach science to all third graders. Thank you for your help and support! I am looking forward to a great year!
