Week of October 12-16, 2009

This week we are beginning a new unit. The title of the unit is "Ready, Set, Speak!"

This is the second unit of the Transitional First Grade ELA's curriculum. In this unit the students will be given ample opportunities to speak, organize thoughts, recall information, predict, expand vocabulary and develop critical thinking skills.
 
Enduring Understandings

Putting one's own ideas into words and appreciating other's perspectives helps develop deeper understanding.
In language there is order and disorder which influence communication.
Sentences are made up of words.
Every word in our language has to have a vowel.
Story elements provide identity, structure and connection to a piece of literature.
Through a variety of literacy experiences we develop appreciation and enthusiasm or reading.


Essential Questions

What is conversation?
How can speaking help us?
Why is sentence structure important?
How can different forms of verbal expression poetry, songs) help develop deeper understanding?
