Absenteeism: Absences are to be reported to the main office first thing in the morning @ 586-5200. Upon your child's return a dated note of explanation is expected to be brought in for school records on the day of your child's return.

Allergies: If your child has an allergy that requires medicine or medical attention, please inform the school nurse and classroom teacher before the first day of school.

Birthdays: Birthdays are celebrated in 1W!! If parents would like to come in for a brief visit on their child's birthday please plan on coming in at our scheduled lunch time, which is 11:05 to 11:45. Some choices are spending recess and lunch with your child, bringing non edible treats in for the class, and or sharing a book with the class.

CASE Training:(Creating and Maintaining a Safe Environment)

Before you may come in to volunteer within the school in any capacity, the Diocese of Rochester requires you to attend C.A.S.E Training. The courses are offered throughout the churches and schools and are listed in bulletins and on the St. Louis School website. A certificate of completion needs to be submitted to the school office before any volunteering can take place.

Celebrations: 1W will be having many seasonal and special celebrations throughout the school year. Sign ups for these will be at the Open House on Thursday, September 15th.

Checks: Checks are the method of payment for any and all activities and fees throughout the school year. Each payment should be separate, labeled, and placed in a sealed envelope addressed to the school office. Please include child's name, classroom, activity and to whom the payment is to go to.

DayStar: DayStar is the charity that 1W helps out throughout the school year. It is a nonprofit organization founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph. It is a foster care and day care program which cares for infants and toddlers with special needs.

Dress Code: Please refer to the Dress Code in the School Agenda for clarification.

Field Trips: First Grade will be taking a few field trips this year. Please fill out all field trip forms as soon as possible, it is helpful when planning for volunteers!! All volunteers must complete the CASE training.

Homework: Homework in First Grade is expected to be a review and practice of the days school work. There will be Math, writing and some type of Reading/LA review on a daily basis. Homework is not meant to stress out you or your child. Please use your own discretion when monitoring your child's ability to handle the homework work load. Send in a quick note if there were issues regarding the completion of any activity(ies).

Milk and Hot Lunch: Milk is delivered on a daily basis and Hot Lunch twice/three times a week. Forms for both orders will be included in the parent communication memo, and on the school website throughout the school year.  Please be sure to clearly label and seal all forms and checks securely before sending them into school.

Mass and Prayer Services: First Graders participate in the Mass and Prayer services throughout the school year. Unless specifically stated parents are encouraged to attend these services. We ask that if you wish to sit with your child, you will need to join your child's class. It is helpful to know if you will be attending and sitting with your child, advanced notice is appreciated.

Notes to School/Take Home Folders: Each day your child will be bringing home a take home folder. Please empty on a daily basis and place any notes to school securely in the "bring back" side. The folders are checked carefully in the morning on a daily basis. Please feel free to follow up with an email or phone call if you wish to check on anything that you have sent into school.

Parent Conferences: Parent conferences are scheduled for the month of November, but additional meetings, if necessary,  can be scheduled at the teacher or parent request. Sign up for conferences will be on the Parent Evening in September.
