As the saying goes, "Reading is fundamental." Students are required to read a book or books that add up to a mimimum of 10 Accelerated Reader points a quarter. The students are encouraged to read a book which interests them. The books are to be during the quarter they wish to take the test--"I read it over the summer" or "I read it in 8th grade" does NOT count. Any intentional misrepresentation will result in a suspension of A.R. points. If a student DOES NOT reach the 10 point minimum, they are subject to a two-point deduction on their final quarter average. If a student goes ABOVE and BEYOND the 10 point minimum, they will receive extra credit toward their final quarter grade. The student will gain .25 points on their final average for every 10 points of A.R. that is acheived. For example:
(and so on....) Students may also read a book that is not designated Accelerated Reader. Only these students may complete Mr. Trescavage's book report assignment that will cover their 10 point responsibility, but only one can be completed per quarter. These book reports must originals; any misrepresentation of information will be met with severe consequences. You can download the rubric below.
1st, 2nd, and 3rd Quarter note: Every student must achieve 10 points of A.R. for each of the school year's first three quarters. 4th Quarter note: A.R. is NOT mandatory for 4th quarter. Any student who wishes to do A.R. will receive extra credit for every 10 points that they read.
