How will you be graded?

Each quarter grade will be based on an accumulation of total points.  Students are always made aware how much an assignment will count as and are encouraged to independently keep track of their own totals.

1) Tests - Traditionally, students should expect 3-4 per quarter.  Most test point totals range from 100-150 points.

* Every student is expected to be present on the day of the test.  If a student is absent, they have three days from the day they return to school to make up that test.  Students failing to take the test within the three day span are subject to receiving a 0%.

**Makeup tests will NOT be made up during class unless circumstances absolutly warrent otherwise.

2) Quizzes - Students will be made aware of quizzes before they are given.  Quizzes usually count for half of the test grade for the unit they are given.

When students are assigned reading for homework, they are subject to daily quizzes to ensure that the nightly reading has taken place.  These quizzes will consist of 10 comprehension questions which will count as 10 points each.

3) Writing Assignments - Given on a number of topics throughout the school year, all writing assignments will have a rubric (downloadable in the Classroom Notes section) so students understand what is required from them.

4) Homework - Assignments are worth 10 points unless otherwise noted.  Homework is either done or not done.  It is considered "practice" to show the skill has been mastered.  Completing it incorrectly shows more practice is required and the mistakes can be fixed.  Not completing the homework does not show anything.  You cannot be helped if you do not put forth the effort.

Note - A 100% is a sacred goal in the class.  Students must have a 100% for the regular classroom grades (quizzes, homework, tests, etc.).  A 99.9% does not round up.  Also, extra Accelerated Reader points will not push you into a hundred no matter how high the grade.
