Reading 30 minutes at the start of every school day (8:15-8:45) and at home every night is required for all students.  Your child was informed of her/his AR level.  In addition, your child was given a personalized point goal (based on her/his Independent Reading Level) for which s/he should strive during the 10 weeks of this school semester.  Points earned toward a student's AR reading goal are counted as homework.

If your child has not communicated her/his reading goal and certification goal with you, please feel free to contact me.

The Giver Related Books: Books on this list either have a similar theme or setting to The Giver.  These books are either set in an utopia (an ideal society) or a dystopia (a hypothetical society in which things are terribly wrong).

Sixth Grade Honor List: Books listed on the Sixth Grade Honor List are meant primarily as a motivating opportunity for students who successfully and independently read at or above grade level.  They are age appropriate classics that also help students reach their AR goal.

REQUIREMENTS: The student must independently read books from a special list of challenging literature (created by teachers and librarians), and accumulate 100 points from the quizzes. The program will score and track the quizzes the student takes; the teacher must manually track everything else for this certification level.
