Adding fractions with like denominators.

Steps.

1.  Bring down the denominator.

2. Add numerators and any whole numbers.

3. Reduce fraction.

Please look to classroom notes for examples or use book pages 160-161.

 

Adding fractions with unlike denominators.

Steps.

1.  Find least common denominator (This is the smallest number that both denominators can go into and check to see if you can use one of the denominators already there.)

2.  However you change the denominators, do the same to the top.

3.  Add numerators and any whole numbers.

4.  Bring down common denominator.

5. Reduce

Please look to your classroom notes for examples or use book pages 162-163.

Adding Mixed Numbers when you need to regroup.

Steps.

1. Find least common denominator.

2. Whatever you do the bottom, do the same thing to the numerator.

3.  Add numerators and any whole numbers.

4.  Reduce,  if you come with with a mixed number remember to add the mixed number to the whole numbers from the problem.
