I say it just begins to live that day." - Emily Dickinson, American Poet Conference Time: 2:40 P.M.-3:30 P.M. * Spelling Quiz of 10 words each Thursday in all English classes. Students get a copy of the next list each Friday. Each list includes a sentence whose words are a part of the quiz. The students are given the meanings and are expected to study the sentence words as well as the 10 words.The quiz is worth 21% of the 6 weeks grade. 6th grade English students are studying the conventions of standard English in speaking and writing, doing word study, and reading and responding to literature. 7th grade English students are practicing writing and composition skills, along with grammar and spelling, in preparation for the TAKS Writing test. They will take the writing test in addition to the TAKS Math and Reading tests. In addition, they are doing word study and reading and responding to literature. 8th grade English students are continuing word study, the study and application of the conventions of written and spoken standard English, and practicing critical thinking skills while reading and responding to literature and non-fiction, which will be a large part of their high school curriculum. *To schedule a conference, call the school office at 883-2311 and leave a message with Mrs. Cook.
