I say it just begins to live that day." - Emily Dickinson, American Poet Spelling Quiz of 10 words each Thursday in 6th, 7th, & 8th English classes. 5th grade students are studying the conventions of written English, doing word study, and will be writing in their journals and writing to respond to literature. 6th grade English students are studying the conventions of standard English in speaking and writing, doing word study, and exploring different genres of literature. 7th grade English students are practicing writing and composition skills, along with grammar, spelling and the conventions of standard English in preparation for the STAAR Writing test coming up on March 1, 2011. Students in 7th grade will take the writing test in addition to the STAAR Math and Reading tests. 7th graders are doing word study, reading and responding to literature, learning strategies for reading and comprehending nonfiction, learning revising and editing techniques, and preparing for an in-class nonfiction book report. 8th grade English students are continuing to study the conventions of written English, exploring the different genres of literature and writing in response to literature. *To schedule a conference, call the school office at 883-2311 and leave a message with Mrs. Poole.
