Science

We are just finishing Chapter 6 about changing ecosystems. We will soon begin a unit on Nutrition.  Please remind your students to STUDY for Science tests using the study guide provided in class as well as their textbook and classroom notes.

English

We are continually working in the Buckle Down workbook and NYS  ELA testing workbook to prepare for the  NYS English Language Arts Exam in May.  We have also been learning about poetry and students have written an original poem in the ABAB form.

Spelling

We will complete one unit of spelling words per week. Please review these words with your child. We have a classroom Spelling Bee review every Thursday but some students need additional practice.

Math

We are have just completed Ch 8 on working with fractions and mixed numbers.  Students should be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using fractions and mixed numbers.  Some students are having difficulty with the fraction concepts.  Please check your student's homework for understanding of these concepts.  There will be a math quiz on Monday, March 1st.

Reading

We are working on Unit 3 in our reading textbook. There will be weekly tests following each story as well as a Unit test. Students are also required to have a free reading book at their desks at all times. We have 15 minutes of D.E.A.R (Drop Everything and Read) daily. We will also be reading some books together as a class.  We are currently reading Poltergoose by Michael Lawrence.

Religion

We are currently studying about Lent and preparing our hearts for the Passion of our Lord. There will be a Passion Play on Wed. March 31st that will include some of the fifth grade boys. We continue to have our Peace Circle on Friday mornings before mass to discuss how we are becoming better Christians through random acts of kindness.
