Science

In November, we studied about the human body. Students learned about the circulatory, digestive, and respiratory systems. Ask your children to tell you how blood flows through the heart or to name the parts of the respiratory and/or digestive systems and their functions. You'll be surprised at what they know!

English

In October, students wrote a descriptive essay about a haunted house. They learned how adjectives and adverbs can really make a story come alive. They have also been learning about sentence structure, punctuation, and finding grammatical errors which are part of the NYS ELA Exam preparation. They are currently learning about idioms and have chosen one to illustrate. These are on the bulletin board outside of our room.

Spelling

We will complete one unit of spelling words per week. Please review these words with your child. We have a classroom Spelling Bee review every Thursday but some students still need additional practice.

Math

We have just completed Chapter 4 on division. This includes dividing with 2 digit divisors, division of money, and division with zeros in the quotient. There will be a chapter test on Tuesday, Nov.24th.

Reading

We have begun Unit 2 in the reading textbook. There will be weekly tests following each story as well as a Unit test. Students are also required to have a free reading book at their desks at all times. We have 15 minutes of D.E.A.R (Drop Everything and Read) daily. We will also be reading some books together as a class.

Religion

Students are learning about creation and God's gifts to us. We are also studying the sacraments and the saints. We will have a Peace Circle every Friday before Mass in which students discuss random acts of kindness and how we can make ourselves better Christians. We will be focusing on the birth of Jesus in the upcoming weeks.
