Homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday. There will be a math assignment and a spelling assignment most nights. Occasionally there will be a social studies or science activity to complete. Your child should expect to spend about 30 minutes on their homework. Sometimes during the year there will also be longer projects to be completed over the course of a month. This is a great way to learn how to break large assignments into smaller chunks. As you can probably tell, time management is an important third grade skill!
Reading is required for a minimum of 20 minutes every night. In order to win a Reading Olympics medal, more reading will be needed. Homework assignments are meant to be a review of the work we did in class. Your child should be able to complete their assignments independently. I would encourage you to review your child's work when they finish so they can correct their mistakes in a timely manner.
