Adventures in Literature and Beyond |
|
Hello to all soon-to-be 11th graders! Remember, as you relax and enjoy your summer, be sure to make time to dive into your summer reading adventures. Your summer reading list as well as the assignments that go with them may be downloaded through the "MY RESOURCES" link on this sight.
WHAT'S IN STORE FOR NEXT YEAR: Adventures in American Literature YOUR GOALS: • Strengthen your written and verbal communication skills so that you will be seen as the intelligent, capable individual you are, by colleges and potential employers. • Prepare for the NYS Regents Exam in English. • Explore American Literature and how it reflects our identity as individuals and as a nation.
YOUR JOB: You are a full-time student; think of school as your full-time job. As an 11th grade English student your job is to: • Be on time every day. • Know what materials you need and always bring them to class. • Share your point of view in a mature and respectful way. • Listen to and acknowledge the views of others. • Know when your work is due and hand in work on time. (The phrase “I didn’t know it was due.” does not exist in 11th grade.) • Ask for the work you missed when you are absent from class. • Ask for help on assignments that you don’t understand – before the due date.
YOUR TOOLS*: The following are the materials you need for this class, bring them with you on the first full day of school (9/6/07). • 1 – 3” three ring binder – a smaller one will not hold everything. • 1 – vinyl (plastic) pocket folder (this will be used all year to transport work to and from home, a paper folder will not hold up.) • 1 – three ring pencil/pen pouch to be left in your English binder • Pens (any color but red), pencils • Supply of loose-leaf paper (at least 50 sheets) for note taking. • Spiral notebook or composition book to be used for in-class journal entries, reading journals, etc. – at least 70 pages. • Small (about 4” x 6”) spiral notebook, that fits inside the pocket of your binder, for recording new vocabulary.
*Other materials will be needed for specific units and will be listed in each Unit Overview.
