Psalm 77: 12 – 13 states: “I will recite the deeds of the Lord, Yes, your wonders of old I will remember. I will recite all your works, Your exploits I will tell.” And certainly the Bible is often read as history. The Greek Herodotus and Thucycides, fathers of the discipline of history believed that those leaders, who did not learn from history, were bound to repeat the mistakes of the past. At John Paul II High School, our goal is to give students the strongest possible understanding of our historical past. This is critical not only for understanding the origins and traditions of our Roman Catholic faith but also the cultural traditions of our multicultural American society. Our students must take three and one-half credits in Social Studies including one year of World Cultures and Geography, one year of World History, one year of United States History, and one semester of United States Government. An additional semester of Economics is also required. For students interested in majoring in social studies in college, we offer a full selection of electives, including many for college credit classes. .
