“The Lord then said to Moses, ‘Take a census of all the first-born males of the Israelites a month old or more, and compute their total number. So Moses took a census of all first born males of the Israelites as God had commanded.” The Book of Numbers, 3: 40, 42.
Mathematics is at the heart of the modern technological, scientific, medical, and business communities. To meet the challenges of success in school or today’s technology-rich world, all students must develop mathematical skills in a meaningful and retrievable way.
At John Paul II High School, the sequence of classes, content emphasis, mathematics integration, hands-on activities, and use of technology combine to give students a solid, lasting foundation in mathematics. All students are required to have three years of mathematics through at least the Algebra II level for graduation. Colleges and universities, however, generally require four years including at least pre-Calculus for many majors. We encourage students to use one of their structured core electives and take a fourth year of mathematics. For accelerated and the math gifted students, our program offers opportunities to explore math topics beyond pre-Calculus and Calculus often only offered at the university level.
