Placement Testing
|
|
If a student is enrolling in the ninth grade at John Paull II and wishes to enroll in any level of language above the first year, John Paul II High School will administer exams for foreign languages to determine correct or advanced placement. These exams will be administered in May and August. Interested parents should contact the department chairperson. Based on student performance on the exam, the school will determine student placement. If a student earns placement credit for Middle or Elementary school languages, these students will receive credit for previous courses towards high school graduation. Native speakers of a foreign language offered at JPII are encouraged to enroll in another language. Foreign Language classes at John Paul II High School are designed for non-native speakers. There are several skills to be learned and enhanced by learning a new language. However, if a native speaker would like to continue the study of their own language, that student would be encouraged to take AP level classes. If there are any questions, parents and students should contact the Coordinator of Curriculum, Paul Philp, Director of Guidence and Counseloing, Paula Nickel or the Department Chairperson, Mrs. Nelson.
