Spanish III-PreAP is a continuing study of the Spanish world, its language and its people. Emphasis is placed on oral skills as well as reading and writing skills. The student will to understand the interrelationships of both the English and Spanish languages and will continue to develop a cultural appreciation of the Hispanic world. The focus of this course is on advanced proficiency.
Students in the Pre-AP classes will be asked to study the vocabulary and grammar of the CP (college prep) class. These students will also be assigned readings of poetry and short stories written by native speakers that will be highlighted on the AP Literature exam.
Students will have one McDougall-Littell text for this class. The hard cover book En Español (Texas Edition ISBN 0618433082). They will also continue to use the reader from Pre-AP level Spanish II Ventanas Tres ( ISBN 0395873517). If you would like to have another resource, McDougall-Littell makes a Take Home Tutor (ISBN 618345663) for additional outside practice and study.
At all levels students are graded using a variety of methods. However, students at this level of study will be graded using an old fashion pencil and paper test, a more modern use of oral recordings or speeches presented to classmates and their ability on a formal writing assignment or a cultural production. Daily study of vocabulary is very important. For each student to be successful and enjoy the class, they need to understand what is being said and asked of them. Our goal at this level is to continue and foster communication with the students in the target language.
