Department Staff Who will teach me?

Latin
Dr. Betty Duke - Latin I, II Pre-AP, III Pre-AP and AP Latin. 
Dr. Betty Duke has been on staff with us for one year and has been a wonderful asset to the lanugage program here at JPII. She has a passion for Latin culture, history and language that is rare today.  I believe the Latin students are going to continue to learn about culture, language and how to support one another under Dr. Duke.  They will have a great year!   

Spanish
Mrs. Therica Walls - Pre-AP Spanish III, and AP Spanish IV
Mrs. Walls has been a master teacher in Garland and Plano during her carrer.  With several years of experience, it is our fortune to have her in the department as our AP Spanish guru.   She is a wonderful example of what dedicated study to the language can do!   There is a lot of hard work in her class, but the reward of earning college credit when you are finished her class make it well worth it!

Mrs. Laura Diaz - Spanish II and Choir
Mrs. Diaz comes to John Paul II from Good Shepard.  So, if you can sing, or just want to try for some extra credit - you might want to start learning some Spanish hymns!  Believe it or not, Mrs. Diaz also has her Bachelors degree in Math, just in case you need tutorials. 

Mr. Johnny Castanon - Spanish I, Head Softball and Asst. Girls Basketball
Mr. Castanon has been teaching Spanish I here at John Paul II High School for two years.  He is very well known for asking the question, "Do you have your recordings?"  If you have Mr. Castanon, make sure your laptop works.  Your recodings are due on a weekly basis.  Our basketball and softball programs are also happy to have Mr. Castanon as an assistant and head coach. 

Mrs. Soriya Nelson - Spanish  II,  II  Pre-AP and  III
Mrs. Nelson has been in a classroom teacher for over ten years at the high school level.  She earned her BA in Romance Language with a minor in Foreign Languages.  A member of the John Paul II staff since the doors opened in 2005, Mrs. Nelson is currently the head of the Foreign Language Department for John Paul II High School. 

French
Mrs. Sheryl Tucker - French I, Pre-AP II, Pre-AP III
Mrs. Tucker is coming to us from Berkner High school in Richardson where she was for twenty-six years.  However, our Texas boys will need to be careful!  Mrs. Tucker was a professor at the University of Oklahoma for three years so she is a BIG Sooner fan.  She also has her Master's degree in French with a minor in Spanish.  Mrs. Tucker is also interested in taking her students on a trip to France.  She would like a chance to show them the culture she learned to love when she lived there.
