French I

French I is an introduction to the French world, its language and its people. The main emphasis is on oral skills while developing reading and writing skills. The student will recognize the interrelationships of languages and will develop a cultural appreciation of the French world. The focus of this course is on low novice proficiency.
Students will have two McDougall-Littell texts for this class. The hard cover book Discovering French Nouveau Bleu (ISBN 0-618-65651-0) and the soft workbook (ISBN 0-618-66178-6) for level one are both required texts. If you would like to have another resource, McDougall-Littell makes a Take Home Tutor (ISBN 0-618-51587-9) for additional outside practice and study. At all levels students are graded using a variety of methods. Students may be graded using an old fashion pencil and paper test, a more modern use of oral recordings, their ability on a formal writing assignment or a cultural production. Daily study of vocabulary is very important. For each student to be successful and enjoy the class, they need to understand what is being said and asked of them. Our goal is to give the students an immersion experience. Basic concepts studied in level one include but are not limited to; subject verb agreement, subject adjective agreement, verb conjugations in the present and past tenses and adverb phrases
