Academic Decathlon

Academic Decathlon is the premier high school academic competiton in the United States. The Academic Decathlon™ is a team competition wherein students match their intellects with students from other schools and states. Gold, Silver and Bronze medals are awarded for individual events and total scores. Winning teams advance through the local, regional, and state levels of competition.The state champions compete at the national finals. At the State and National levels, scholarships are awarded. Although rules permit freshmen and sophomores to be on the team, Decathlon is generally for juniors and seniors. Academic Octathlon is the Junior Varsity version of Decathlon. It includes the same events as Decathlon except for there is no speech or interview. Additionally, junior and senior topics such as mathematics do not include differential calculus or trigonometry. The lead coach is Mrs. Amy Eckler; assistant coaches are Mrs. Suellyn Chesal, Mrs. Pam Chaney, and Mr. Paul Philp. Students are tested in ten categories: -
