John Paul II High School has four educational goals. The third goal is to further the educational opportunities and intellectual growth of all students; the forth goal is to support the student's social, mental and physical needs. For many students, this includes academic competitions. Consequently, John Paul II High School supports numerous extracurricular academic opportunities for its students and will add more as we can. We encourage students to participate in at least one extracurricular, whether sporting, fine arts, or academic competitions. Participation has many benefits. OVerall, evidence shows that students involved in extracurriculars generally do better in their classes and score higher grades. Additionally, participation is social and often fills a need of belonging and succeeding for students. As of 2006, we support the following Academic Extracurriculars, which involve competitions. If you are interested, go to the specific page for each competition and contact the sponsor directly. 1. Academic Octathlon (9th and 10th grades) 2. Academic Decathlon (11th and 12th grades) 3. Debate (all grades) 4. TAPPS Academic Competitions
