Choose one of the following to be completed by the end of class (unless you really need more time and then come see me) when you will present what you did.Make SURE you are able to explain ALL your artistic choices and decisions.(Saying, “Just because” or “I couldn’t think of anything else” or “Because that’s all the material I have” are NOT going to work.)
AssignmentOne:
Get online and do some searching on events occurring in Iraq with US troops (www.newsweek.com is a good start or Time would also be a good place)Choose an specific even that really moved you (a road side bombing, the capture of a US soldier, etc.) and that shows the ugliness of war.Next, depict that in a composition using whatever medium (pastels, chalk, colored pencils, etc.).Make it as big as your sketch pad, if not bigger, and take the time to really think about WHY you are chose to place things where they are. . . answer the “So what?” part of painting.
Assignment Two:
Do some searching on what is going on politically in our country that you might have some issue with. . . something you really want to protest about.Then do that!But art style rather than verbal.SHOW why you are disgusted through illustrating a scene of that depicts that.It might be what you predict the results would be if “it” wasn’t stopped.It might be in the form of a well thought out political cartoon that YOU come you with.Your call.Just be ready to explain the ins and outs of the political debate and to show your product.BE READY TO EXPLAIN ALL YOUR CHOICES.
**Alternative to the above:do the same thing as what is listed above, BUT use “issues” that you see at iSchool and show your concern through art.Again, your medium is up to you. **
Assignment Three:
This is the creepy, but VERY interesting one.Goya took his painting with Satan eating his own kid from an ancient myth of Chronos.Now YOU get a chance to do some cool art!Take an ancient myth (or even a not so ancient one) and depict it in an art piece.Keep in mind Goya took the disturbing images for an impact; you must do the same.Google some mythological stories and take the goriest or the most memorable part and show it in a picture.
