Homework Policies

Purpose: The purpose of homework is to gather information towards understanding a concept or topic, and/or to practice a skill.

Academic Dishonesty: "According to Webster's New World Dictionary, to plagiarize is to 'take the ideas, writings, etc. from another and pass them off as one's own' (570). When you do this, you are committing a form of academic dishonesty. In actuality, plagiarism is a type of stealing. The person whose ideas or sentences you are passing off as your own has worked hard to write down his or her ideas. If you just copy another's work, you are not really working at all, you are not learning anything, you are not processing the information in any way. In fact, you are just copying." (http://matcmadison.edu/is/writingcenter/plagarism.htm)

Students who participate in plagarism, whether the copier or the original producer of the work, will each receive a zero for the assignment and will not be given the opportunity to make-up the grade. Every effort must be made by students to ensure that their work product is and remains their own.

Timely Completion: Homework is due at the beginning of class the day following the assignment, and must be complete in order to receive credit. Incomplete and/or late assignments are not eligible for credit.

Excused Absences: District policy is followed regarding the allowable period for making-up assignments. Upon your return to school following an excused absence, either before class begins or after class is dismissed, you will check the assignment board and the designated class bin for missed assignments.

Weight: Assignments and class work, quizzes, and exams are weighted equally in calculation of interim and final grades. It would be a mistake to believe that completion of homework assignments is not necessary in order to succeed in this course.

Problems: If, for any reason, you feel that you are unable to understand the concepts, or if you are otherwise experiencing difficulties with assignments, please make arrangements with me for help after school ASAP. You need to communicate with me sooner rather than later. I'm here to help, but I cannot help if I'm not made aware of circumstances and situations. :-)
