Message from Mrs. Fine

Welcome to the John Lewis Childs School! Our school is located in Floral Park, Long Island, just beyond the border of Queens, N.Y. It is a wonderful community comprised of approximately 16,000 residents. The John Lewis Childs School is located at the intersection of South Tyson Avenue and Elizabeth Street. A village school that has occupied the land for over one hundred years with the first school built in 1895. Our school bears the name of the founder of the Floral Park community, Mr. John Lewis Childs who built a seed and flower horticultural empire supplying the entire United States and much of the world with quality seed and plant materials. Today the John Lewis Childs School ranks as one of the premier Elementary Schools in Nassau County. Our highly talented and well trained faculty services approximately seven hundred and ten children ranging from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 6. In addition to a rigorous academic program that challenges youngsters to reach their highest academic potential, we offer an extensive enrichment program that cultivates students' creative and athletic abilities. Our club programs include, Drama, Orchestra, Band, Chorus, Science, Math as well as Intra-mural sports. JLCS boasts a state-of-the-art computer and network system that includes over 144 terminals located in classrooms, offices as well as a computer lab. Our school library is well stocked with the finest literature for all grade levels. We are also proud of our ability to communicate with communities and organizations outside of our school and around the world using Distance Learning Technology.
