Welcome to the John Lewis Childs School PTA. We're a group of committed parents and teachers who work together for the benefit of our children. Our meetings will be on a rotating schedule of day and night, as well as, a different day of the week. We do this to accommodate more people to attend meetings on a flexible basis. Please come attend one of our meetings to see what an enlightening, fun filled experience it can be. You'll learn more about the 35 or so committees we have that organize and run the various programs and events the PTA provides for the children.
Our school year starts off with our volunteer parents riding the buses on the first day of school with the kindergarteners and other parents helping the 1st graders with their first lunch in the cafeteria. The Class Parent committee starts up and our PTA membership drive gets going on Curriculum Nights.
When October comes we have our big family event, the Harvest Fair. The Gift Wrap Sales committee oversees our biggest fundraiser during this month and the Class Picture committee organizes the students' pictures to be taken by outside photographers. But most enjoyable is the Halloween parade that the whole school partakes in.
When December rolls around the children are more than ready to shop at the Holiday Fair our PTA committee sets up and runs for two days. The students also enjoy attending the programs that the PTA brings into the school to perform and entertain them.
The Month of February is PARP, or Parents as Reading Partners, month which includes a book fair from Scholastic Books. Many more entertaining and fun ideas for the month are provided by the PTA PARP committee.
In April we have Staff Appreciation Day where the PTA provides a theme lunch for all the teachers and staff. It's a great way in which the PTA can say thank you to everyone.We also have the Cultural Arts Festival in the evening, where the children’s artwork is displayed and the children perform.
By May we're ready for our annual Plant Sale right before Mother's Day. The children enjoy making their own selections for a special plant for MOM.Also in May is our Special Person’s Day, when the students can bring a special guest to their classroom to visit.
June swings in fast with the PTA providing pizza and drinks for the students on Field days.
The success of all of the programs we provide for the children and of our organization depends wholly on our membership. So stop by a meeting sometime and see what you can do to play an active part in your child's school life. Come join the PTA.
