For the Juniors in my classes, the PERT Math Study Guide is at the bottom of THIS page.  You will be taking the PERT this February if your last FCAT score was a 2, 3, 0r 4.  If you don't pass the PERT, you will be scheduled a remedial math class your senior year, in addition to your regular math class.

Welcome back for the new school year 2011-2012!!!!

Hello-  Welcome to the home page of Mr. Hutchman's Web Site.  Feel free to poke around and look in all the nooks and crannies.  Class-specific information can be found by clicking on the appropriate link at the left.

NEWS AND NOTES

The syllabus for each of the classes that I teach is available as a download on the link at left for each class.

A THUMBNAIL SKETCH OF THE THREE MATH DISCIPLINES I TEACH

  • ANALYSIS OF FUNCTIONS is an upper level math class designed as a follow-up to Algebra II.  The content of the course revolves around the major functions of Algebra (linear and quadratic functions, polynomials, rational functions, exponential and logarithmic functions) and Trigonometry.  The intent of the class is to prepare the student to take higher level mathematics at the next level.

  • AP CALCULUS AB.  Calculus is the branch of mathematics that deals with limits, derivatives, and integrals. Before studying calculus, all students are required to complete three years of mathematics designed for college-bound students: Geometry Honors, Algebra II Honors, and Pre-Calculus. This study should include evaluation of functions that are linear, polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic, trigonometric, inverse trigonometric, and piecewise-defined. In particular, before studying calculus, students must be familiar with the properties of functions, the algebra of functions, and the graphs of functions. Students must also understand the language of functions (domain and range, odd and even, periodic, symmetry, zeros, intercepts, and so on) and know the values of the trigonometric functions of the numbers 0, p /6, p /4, p /3, p /2, and their multiples. Advanced Placement Calculus AB is a college-level Calculus I course offered for high school students. In early May, all students will take a national standardized exam, the successful completion of which may allow them to place out of first-year Calculus at many colleges and universities.
