Pool Wildlife Sanctuary
In October 2008, our class went to the Pool Wildlife Sanctuary in Emmaus. We took a nature walk in search of insects, habitats, plants, and animals for our adventure hunt. After lunch (yum!), Miss Jen turned us into pilgrims, and we learned how pilgrims worked hundreds of years ago. We crushed corn kernels to make flour for our cornbread, we made homemade butter, and we even made candles out of beeswax (Miss Hillegass was too excited... she didn't get pictures of the candles). For the last part of our field trip, we learned how the pilgrims made medicines out of berries, acorns, and honey. We realized how lucky we are to be a kid in 2008 - and how hard it must have been to live as a pilgrim!
