Phonemic Awareness:  Phoneme segmentation

Above Level Readers:  We’ll finish the following skill pages from “The Three Bikers”.

Reading skill:  setting of a story,

Phonics:  long e, ea, ee and final digraphs

Grammar:  homophones

Spelling words:  us, bus, must, cut, cub, club

with, then, don’t, says

Bonus Words: orange, black

 Math:  We’ll continue with Topic 4 this week.  The skills are adding doubles, near doubles, facts with five on a ten frame, making 10 on a ten frame, drawing a picture and writing a number sentence to solve a problem. The test will be next Monday.  You can go to www.pearsonsuccessnet.com to review the lessons.  UN and password are your child’s N number.

Science:  Spiders will be our topic this week.  We’ll read and discuss how spiders are different than insects.  Our Oreo cookie activity will help the children learn about the parts of a spider.   The children enjoyed making GAK with their fifth grade buddies in Mrs. Compton’s class.  Today we will be visiting them again to do a dry ice experiment.  This month we will be going with our buddies to Oscar Scherer State Park.  Thanks to Mrs. Compton for planning this great trip.

Social Studies:  We’ll begin our unit on Pilgrims this week.  We’ll read about their journey and the hard times in their new land. 

Technology:  The websites we’ll work on include splash phonics, scholastic.com and several spider websites.

Reminders: 

This is our second grading period.  Please be sure to read with your first grader daily and practice the basic addition facts. 

Our lunchtime is 11:20-11:50

Please sign the agenda book daily.

Send new supplies if your child needs them. 

Thank you to all who helped make our silent auction a success.  We raised enough money for our end of the year field trip on the Sarasota Bay Explorer.  I appreciate everything you do to help the children and me.  

I’m hoping our class website will be available this week.
