Being a good student starts with good attendance.  You cannot succeed if you do not show up!  Good attendance is important in every aspect of life; school, work, sports, clubs, church.  It shows that you are responsible and take your work seriously, which is important to being a good student, a good employee, and a good citizen.

We understand that for some of you there will be days when an emergency, an illness or an appointment will keep you from school.  Here are some general but extremely important instructions to follow:

New York State requires me to keep a written and signed excuse for EVERYTHING; whether it is an absence, an early dismissal or a tardy.  Parents should call first thing in the morning if there will be an absence or tardy of any kind.  A note should accompany the student upon arrival to school.  If there will be an early dismissal a note should be brought in first thing in the morning as I generate and Early Dismissal List for the day so the teachers know when a student needs to leave.

For a more detailed review of the Attendance Policy set forth by Mt. Mercy Academy and New York State, please review the student handbook.  It lists policies and unacceptable excuses for tardiness and absenteeism.

What to include in a written excuse:

  1. Name of student

  2. Date of absence

  3. Reason for absence

  4. Signature of Guardian (first & last name)

  5. Please include last name of student if different from Guardian.

Thank You!

Get to school on time to avoid demerits!!
