Our Year in Music
Christ is our light. Christ is our salvation. I am very happy to be on the staff at St. Rita. This will be my fourth year. I enjoy teaching and look forward to seeing everyone again as well as meeting our new students. Grade 5 did a wonderful job with the play Pinocchio. The costunme department, run by our parents, did an outstanding job. The three and four-year olds in pre-school are growing more and more confident about expressing themselves. Recently we had great fun with using colorful scarves in music class. Our Kindergarten classes love to sing and are very creative. They enjoy inventing new verses and sing the old standards with great enthusiasm. We will continue to do recorder for grades Three, Four, Five and Six. Third Grade students need to get recorders and we order our instruments through Music is Elementary. Each student now has an individual folder with music for them to keep. Students in Grades 4, 5 and 6 need to tell the music teacher if their recorder has been misplaced. I hope this will inspire them to pursue playing a band instrument. In the past the staff and students of Roberts Wesleyan have done a wonderful job of presenting this additional after school outlet for our many talented students. We hope this will continue. Liturgy! As always we make the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass a most important part of our school year. . Remember that everyone's participation is most important. Our rehearsals for choir practice will be held during lunchtime and in the music room. This is the same as for last year and anyone in Grade 5 or Grade 6 is welcome to join. Three Sixth grade students and one 5th Grade student joined us this January. We have an energetic, talented bunch of choristers who are committed to give of their best at rehearsals and at holy Mass. We have begun singing the new responses at Mass. Singing and speaking new words makes us think a little more deeply about what we are doing. The Epiphany liturgy was exceptionally prayerful. The next school liturgy will be on February 1 at 7:00 pm with Bishop Matthew Clark as celebrant. All are welcome. Bring a friend. We are now getting ready for the Senior Tea in May. Kindergarten and grades One, Two and Four perform songs and everyone else has an important part as well. The first and second grades did a wonderful job with their Christmas play "Angels, Lambs Ladybus andFireflies." The Christmas Prayer Service, prepared by the Specials Teachers was wonderful and the carolling afterward was most exciting. Grades Six will have their play in spring of 2012. The Music and Arts Festival will be at Christ the King on March 22. More information will be forthcoming. May the peace of Christ fill our days. St. Cecilia is the patron saint of music. Her feast day is November 22. Other important musical saints are Saint Gregory the Great, St. Ambrose and St. Philip Neri. Our present Pope, Benedict XVI is also a lover of music whose favorite composer is Mozart.
