Meet Mrs. Fox Meet Mrs. Fox

Hi! Let me introduce myself!

This is the 24th year I have worked at wonderful Bell Top School!

I began working in our school district as a speech-language therapist. I had this job for almost 10 years and actually worked in six of the seven schools during those years! During one year, I worked with more than 50 students! Previously, I worked at Albany Medical Center's Communication Disorders Center with hearing impaired children and adults and then, I worked briefly for Head Start in Albany.

I taught first grade for ten years and then, I was in second grade for three years. Now, I have returned to first grade and look forward to teaching your children and working with Mrs. O'Connor, my teaching assistant, and with Mrs. Nahal, the other first grade teacher.

I really love teaching both of these grades. Reading is very special to me  and my goal is to instill the love of reading in all of my students by tapping into their interests. I believe that there are books out there for everyone and I aim to help all of the children feel comfortable and excited about reading each day! We will read and write independently, with partners, and in small or large groups. Throughout the year, we will read and write all of the different genres. Also, I feel strongly that writing and reading are closely intertwined so we write daily on a variety of topics. I use a variety of picture books and lots of "modeling and practice" to help teach how fluent readerrs read and how avid writers write! You will notice many different kinds of reading materials in my classroom. I enjoy intergrating arts and crafts into my reading and writing programs, too. Plus, math, social studies, health, and science are an integral part of our weekly program. There are many skills and strategies to learn this year so we'll be busy!
Your help and support are always encouraged and appriciated!

Two special projects we'll do are based on the Iditarod dogsledding race in Alaska and on the book: Flat Stanley (targeting USA map skills). We'll also do a variety of many different units. We'll also have penpals!

I have two grown sons who attended Bell Top School and went on to Goff, Columbia, and then college. Jared is a biology teacher in NYC and Derek works locally at Nanotech in the IT department. Both of my sons are avid cyclists. They enjoy baseball and either hockey or soccer. Plus, Jared is a world traveler and plays rec. soccer and Derek is a tech expert. My husband is a lawyer in East Greenbush, a Yankee and Bruce Springsteen fan (he's a Jersey guy) and enjoys playing golf and being my traveling companion, of course.

I can be found either reading, gardening, knitting, baking, doing crafty projects, taking photos, finding great ideas on the internet, and/or traveling.

Feel free to e-mail me with any questions or comments!

I'm looking forward to a fantastic school year with your children!

I hope you'll agree that - it will be fun to "paws" in first grade for awhile!

Best Wishes,

Mrs. Fox
