FOX MONTHLY NEWS THE FOX MONTHLY NEWSLETTER
JUNE 2009

Welcome to the Month  of June!

In the steamy month of June,

underneath the silver moon,

we can eat vanilla ice cream

from a silver spoon.

And even though

ice cream will melt

we'll still recall how nice it felt

to eat it all,

though it went too soon

underneath the silver moon

in the lovely month of June.

By Helen H. Moore

ENGLISH-LANGUAGE ARTS

The McGraw-Hill "end of the year" test and our fluency testing has been completed. We are now reviewing several skill areas such as figurative language (idioms), contractions, adjectives/nouns/pronouns/verbs, quotation marks, and multiple meaning words. Use of appropriate capital letters and punctuation will continue to be reinforced! We will continue to read a variety of fiction and non-fiction books as a class, with partners, and independently.

We've had a busy few weeks writing poetry! The student's collections of shape poems were wonderful! Then, we moved on to terrific comparing poems and now we're finishing up with challenging acrostic poems. The children were very motivated to do their best! Lots of creative thinking, visualizing, and interesting word choices were demonstrated. Some of the students didn't want to stop! I hope they share all their poems with you and will continue writing poetry into the summer. We received our last set of penpal letters and we'll write back this week during writing workshop. All of the manuscripts have been typed and are now ready to be illustrated! Quite exciting to be "published authors"! Our "Author's Reception will be one morning from 9:30 -10:30 during the week of June 15th. Look for an announcement soon!

MATH

We will complete our second measurement chapter by Friday. Then, during the rest of June we will do two "bonus" chapters: "Exploring Multiplication" and "Numbers Through 1,000".
