NGSSS Standards for SIP NGSSS Standards for SIP

You will be looking for "next generation" Sunshine State Standards (NGSSS) that correlate to your SIP. The standards can be from any grade level, although standards for grade 6-12 are preferred. (Mrs. Flynt will show how to check the grade level).

  1. Visit THIS WEBSITE and conduct a keyword search for NGSSS standards that relate to your project.
    • Your key words have to be VERY general (environment, energy, health, etc). Ask Mrs. Flynt or Mr. Flynt for help finding keywords and standards.
  2. Read through the search results and locate standards that are related to your project.

  3. Use your cursor to select and copy a standard (including the letters and numbers at the front).

  4. Select and then copy and paste each standard (including the Standard #) into a new Word document.

  5. If you can't find any standards using a keyword search, you can look through the file of middle school science standards attached at the bottom of THIS page. (But realize that this is a HUGE file and that Social Studies and Language Arts standards won't be listed.)

  6. After you copy and paste your first standard, make sure you type the correct class heading at the top of your Word document.

  7. Use Word Art to create a title for your document. The title should be related to your project topic and include "NGSSS" somewhere int he document title.

  8. Save your new document using the correct file name!

    • File Name: First Name Last Name Period SIP NGSSS
  9. The final version of your completed SIP NGSSS word document must have four (4) to eight (8) standards that are related to your project.

  10. Beneath each standard, you need to write a brief description of how the standard relates to your project. Your description MUST be at least 3 sentences! (3-5 sentences is typical.)

  11. We will have several computer lab days in the nest two weeks, but we will be doing ther things in addition to SIP. So make sure you practice looking for standards and uploading files on your own BEFORE you are in the lab so that you can ask questions and get help any issues you are having.

  12. The final version of your SIP NGSSS assignment must be uploaded to the FINAL DRAFT message board on the class website by FRIDAY, OCTOBER 21st!

If you are struggling with the "search" method for finding NGSSS for your project, you may also look through the file attached below. However it only lists NGSSS that are just for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Advanced Science.
