In an effort to make the curriculum bodybrain compatible this year, students will be learning various science topics under the theme of relationships. Starting right away in September, students will discover the relationship between their brain and their body. Through this short and exciting unit, students will come to better understand how they learn, how to craft their environment for success, how to control their emotions, and how movement helps them learn. Students will also discover their strengths as learners through an introduction to the multiple intelligences. This unit sets the stage for the year as we continually come back to what we understand about how people learn best. The first FOSS unit gives students a chance to explore the physics of sound. Students will learn about the relationship between vibrations, freqency, pitch, amplitude, and wave lengths. We will think about real-world applications for understanding sounds as we design solutions to problems in our community. After winter break, we will move on to the Rocks and Minerals FOSS kit. Students will discover the properties of rocks and minerals. Finally, students will love the Structures of Life unit from FOSS, where they will find relationships between the environments of many creatures and plants and the survival needs of those beings.
