Welcome to the field of dreams! Regulation play begins on September 1st, but I'll see you at Meet and Greet on August 27th for a warm up. I can't wait to assist you and coach you through this amazing game of learning. This year you will charge toward your goals as students, be positive teammembers, and score your way to success! To start off our year, we will revisit the relationship between our brains and our bodies so we can really focus on how we each learn best. This is the launch into our theme, "Relationships," but you'll notice a few soccer references here and there. Throughout the year, you will learn about building communities, sound, Native Americans, the desert environment, rocks and minerals, crayfish, plants, and beetles. I can't wait for you to join this winning team! Desert Research! Click here: http://www.field-trips.org/tours/sci/desert/_tourlaunch5.htm Your Teacher: Mrs. Drake Hello! I am so excited to be your teacher this year! This is my sixth year teaching and I just love my job. I have taught 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grades, and third grade is a great year. I still live in Fall City with my husband, Brandon Drake, and my two cats: Juba Turkey Drake and Boots Bomb-Dropper Drake (that's a funny story), and dog named Buddy. I LOVE to read and I'm often "caught" reading when I should be brushing my teeth or doing laundry, among other more serious tasks. I am really into making things with my hands, like clay sculptures and blankets from yarn, because I thrive on being creative. I am also very active. When I'm teaching you, I will always be on my feet (or on my hands if you're lucky). Sometimes, Mr. Drake gets irritated with me in the summer because I'm not teaching and I have too much energy to burn! I try to do a lot of outdoor activities, like kayaking and hiking, just to let off a little steam. When it's raining, I go to Hot Yoga or Kickboxing classes. I love learning, too (no, I'm not too old for that), so you'll see me working right along side of you. This summer, I actually started on my own educational journey to earn my National Boards Teaching Credential. It's been a challenge, but very rewarding because I love having to look at things from a new perspective. You'll hear lots more about this throughout the year, because I'll be taping our classroom activities and interviewing you regularly. You'll have a great time! This summer, I plan to read 20 books. I've only read 5 so far, so I've got a ways to go before reaching my goals! Unlike years past, I have not planned any big trips around the world. Instead, I'm staying close to home to play lots of home-run-derby in my backyard, root on the Mariners, swim in the pool with my neices, and hike around Washington. I am also working on becoming a world-famous drummer, even though I'm only playing on Rock Band! I'm really looking forward to hearing about your adventures in August at the Meet and Greet!
