We are now into our daily routine in third grade.  Students are learning to be organized and responsible in writing down assignments and turning in their work on time.

REMEMBER TO CHECK AND SIGN YOUR CHILD'S HOMEWORK FOLDER EVERY NIGHT.

Book Report for October is due on Thursday the 30th.  Late reports will only receive a grade of 1.  The diorama is graded on student effort and how it relates to the story they read.  It does not need to be a masterpiece, although parents can help out.  The focus is on the writing and presentation of the book as well as the students understanding of what they read.

We our finishing up our novel unit on Bunnicula.  Students looked at clues and made inferences about the characters.  They learned new vocabulary words and how to answer comprehension questions using the text to refer to.  Next week we will return to our anthology stories.

In writing we focused on descriptive details in writing an advertisement for a Haunted House for sale.

We have completed learning the alphabet A to Z in cursive.  We will now take the time to review the shape, size, slant, spacing, and smoothness in our writing while revisiting each letter in the alphabet.

In math we are finished with Mini Unit A - Geometry.  This mini unit focused on quadrilaterals.  We looked at lines, line segments, paralellograms, rectangles, squares, and a rhombus.  Geometry will continue throughout the year as small mini lessons in between the other units.  Math activity pages we do in class are torn out at the end of each unit, stapled, and sent home with the math test attached.

In social studies we finished our study of geographical features of Orange County.  We will use the rest of October to study spiders, pumpkins, and other halloween related topics.  In November we will switch from social studies to science with our unit on Energy and Matter.
