Reading:  We are in Theme 2 with our RtI groups for reading.  Students are doing a great job of coming in and getting organized to move into their groups.  Theme 2 centers around Family Traditions.  Students will be sharing their family traditions with us in class.  Take this time to sit with your child and talk about traditions your family has or create a new tradition together!

Writing/Grammar: Students will be writing personal narratives along the theme of Family Traditions.  This is a great time to sit with your child and talk about family origins and customs.

Word Masters is an optional word study competition that allows students to increase their knowledge of language.  Students will get a word list to study.  Then they will be given an analogy test to see if they really understand the meaning of the word in a variety of context.  Begin studying now!  The test will be given the first week in December.

Math:  Students finished Unit 2 and are now into Unit 3. We are estimating and rounding numbers, comparing and ordering numbers, using estimation in addition and subtraction. Remember word problems have words in the answers!  We will begin introducing Multiplication right after Thanksgiving break.  Parents may want to invest in a set of flash cards for extra practice.

Social Studies:  After Thanksgiving we will begin our unit on Native Americans of Orange County.  Please keep the Nothing Rhymes with Orange book we received at our field trip close at hand.  Students will be asked to bring it to class to use for information.

ScienceSun, Moon, and Stars test will be on Wednesday 11/23!  We are trying to work with the weather to make observations about the Sun.  Students need to recognize that the Sun rises in the east and sets in the west.  Seasons are created because the Earth is tilted on its axis which causes the Sun's rays to hit the Earth at an angle in some places.
