What!? The holidays are here already?! In Reading we are looking at stories that talk about family traditions. Students will be writing about tradtions they share in their family. Don't have a family tradition? Maybe start one together! Reading skills will focus on the Author's Viewpoint, categorizing and classifying information, noting details, and finding the main ideas and details. In language we are learning to identify common and proper nouns, singular and plural nouns. We will also look at special nouns that change completely instead of just adding s or es to form a plural (mouse - mice). We will also focus on compound words. contractions, and plurals. Our new math series continues to be a challenge for some in being able to show proof drawings and transfer the idea to the algorithm. We are ending our work in unit 2 with math word problems using addition and subtraction. The remainder of the month we will focus on graphing. We are taking a break from social studies to do our first unit in science on the Sun, Moon and Stars. Students will learn the phases of the moon, how the sun moves across the sky, and about constellations. If you are planning on venturing out over the Thanksgiving break you may want to visit these geographical places in Orange County. Modjeska Canyon and musuem - Visit the Helen Modjeska museum and the famous red stained glass windows! Silverado Canyon - great hiking areas and waterfalls. Balboa Peninsula and Newport Back Bay - great nature centers to explore the local wildlife. Laguna Canyon Nature Center - Set in the San Joaquin Hills a great place to study animals in Orange County. Go for a bike ride along the Santa Ana River Trail. Take a drive up to Red Hill. Sign up for an outing with the Donna O'Neil Land Conservancy in Mission Viejo (see web link).
