FROM THE DESK OF THE DIRECTOR OF ACADEMICS, DR JAMES DEMPSEY

The message this month will be short and include an opportunity for our Juniors (soon to be seniors). Beginning in September 2009, SHA will offer several courses that students can earn college credit. The courses are:

-Finite Math and Statistics taught by Daemen College will be offered during the school day. Three college credits will be awarded through Daemen for each course. The tuition will be based on the number of students who enroll in the course. We will need at least 15 students enrolled to offer each and still make it a financial bargain.

-College Spanish and French (SP 103, SP 104, FR 103 and Fr 104) will be taught by our own Dr. Martha Horohoe and will give students the opportunity to earn 3 or 6 credits in either foreign language.  Niagara University is the sponsor school. The courses follow the curriculum of intermediate college courses that are demanding, yet success is very achievable. The reports from other schools are favorable in terms of both giving students the opportunity to earn college credit in high school and be positive experiences. Tuition is $180 per course and will be offered during the school day.

For prerequisites and other information, please feel free to call Dr. James Dempsey at 834-2101 ext. 308 or consult the Curriculum Guide for the 2009-2010 school year to be available in 1 month. Both students and parents are encouraged to consult with Mrs Brady concerning this option. Don’t be afraid to take the rigorous courses, it helps in the long run!
