Erin and Mary prior to the big day

The contents of this site are designed to keep parents, students and alumnae updated with the Academic and some procedural aspects of SHA. The Webpage contains a variety of different aspects of my thoughts and messages to parents and students. The academic program at Sacred Heart Academy has as its purpose the teaching and promotion of skills and the gaining of knowledge  which will allow students to adapt to an everchanging world and be able to progress to the next phase of their life. The world is a very competitive place and many future jobs have yet to be invented. Much preparation comes at the college level however to get to that level positive Knowledge, attitude, skills and work habits (KASH) and good grades must be in place. People will make decisions based on your high school transcript and activities. It is with these thoughts in mind along with the Franciscan values and beliefs that I say aim for 85% as a minimum on all work, take the rigorous courses, respect the rights of others and seek the advanced Regents Diploma.

Below is an excerpt of a speech given in January, 2007 what I see the direction, both long and short term of the Sacred Heart Academy academic program.  This is subject to change based on an Ad Hoc Committee of the Board of Directors future statement of direction.

"My purpose in speaking to you today is to clarify a number of things and to create a better understanding of the direction of the academic program at SHA.   In compliance with safety and order to create a learning and teaching situation where trust and communication abound and to promote a positive and rigorous learning situation that the following are also important:

-SHA is committed to providing a comprehensive, balanced and challenging Catholic education based on the core values of the Franciscan tradition.

- In all cases giving your best effort is expected

-In conjunction with the nature of Catholicism, service to others, positive ethics, integrity and a strong sense of self and community are fostered through a wide range of co-curricular activities.

-Respect and distractions/changes/other activities will still be a way of life in promoting a well- rounded education.

The process of scheduling is a serious one. Decisions and financial commitments are made bases on enrollments. We will try to run every class we can so once you have committed to a class dropping will be difficult. Just because you do not like the course, or it wasn’t what you thought it would be, or you do not like the teacher, or I was signed up for it against my choice or this is my senior year and I want to enjoy it. These are not reasons to back out on a commitment which YOU made. Once you are in you stay. September is the time to be in class. Make up your mind and stick to it.

You will hear these ideas frequently. Our purpose is to prepare you for the next phase of your life. You are here because you have demonstrated an ability and  shown a desire and ability to succeed. In all cases we will expect your best effort not for us but for YOUR future. Education and effort are the keys to your future and you can do it."

St Francis and St Clare, pray for us.

My family and friends are below. Enjoy
