Syllabus for 8 West Science Mustang Middle School 8th grade Science Welcome to a new year at Mustang Middle School! We hope everyone had a good summer. We are looking forward to getting to know all of the students this year. We will spend the year studying three main units. We will begin the year with a review of the scientific method and scientific process skills. Then, we will begin a unit on Properties of Matter. During this unit, students will explore the physical and chemical properties of matter, density, mixtures, solutions, compounds, elements, and chemical reactions. Following the Properties of Matter unit, we will study energy, machines and motion. In this unit, students will learn about how simple machines work, as well as the forces that affect them. Expectations 1. Come to class prepared. 2. Be respectful and courteous to others. 3. Refrain from becoming involved in horseplay. (For your safety as well as your classmates it is important to stay on task and use all the equipment properly.) 4. Turn in your work on time. Consequences for Misbehavior If you decide to misbehave in my classroom there will be consequences. 1st Offense, I will verbally warn you. 2nd Offense, I will verbally warn you, again. 3rd Offense, I will assign you one hour of detention and notify your parents. 4th Offense, I will move you to a different area of the room and you will receive two hours of detention and your parents will be contacted.
