Article Analysis

All honors students are required to turn in one article analysis per month. They are due on the last Friday of each month. (This makes you first one due September 25th). This is going to be a report that students will write over a science article of their choice.

Guidelines:

1. At home students will need to find a science article on the internet or in a science magazine. There are many free online science journals that article can be obtained from. Any science related topic is acceptable. This is your opportunity research areas of science that interest you.

2. All papers must be one page in length and typed in 12 point times new roman font. Please do not use extra spaces or pictures to make your paper seem longer than it is. If you cannot type you paper or don’t have internet access, let me know.

3. Your paper must be at least two paragraphs. The first paragraph should be a summary of your article. Tell me who, what, when, or where of your article. Be very careful not to copy sentences directly from your article.

4. The last paragraph should include your opinion of the article. If the subject is controversial, what do you think? Was there something in this article that you found interesting? Did you like the article? Why or why not?

5. On a separate sheet of paper you will need to include the citation for the article you read. We will discuss this in class. If you need extra help, you can use the website www.citationmachine.net as a resource.

6. You also need to include 3 vocabulary words on the separate sheet of paper. Some of these article use words you may not be familiar with. You will need to pick three of these and define them. You can use an online resource or an old-fashioned dictionary to obtain your definitions.

7. Finally- You must include a copy of the article you read. If you got your article from a magazine, turn in the magazine with your paper and dog-ear the page it is on. This is required so I can make sure your paper is not copied from the article you read. I will not grade papers that are plagiarized.
