Beginners Web-Quest
In this web-quest your task will be to read an Introduction, the Task, the Process, and complete all forms by printing them off and filling them out. You will have 2 weeks to finish the web-quest and turn in your materials.

PARTS OF A FLOWERING PLANT WEB QUEST
INTRODUCTION
When you think of a plant that has a flower, what do you think of? Do you think of a small plant that grows in a garden, like a rose or a daisy? Do you think of a plant with brightly colored parts? Well, not all flowering plants are small. In fact, many types of trees are flowering plants. And, not all flowers have bright colors. Some flowers, like those on some grasses, have little color. Most flowers, however, have the same basic parts.
TASK
Your task is to research and discover the parts of a flowering plant. Along the way you will take notes and record new vocabulary and its meaning. You will use only the internet sites listed in this web quest. You will also be responsible for completing all work sheets and printing off all worksheets for this web quest. Follow the steps in the Process carefully.
PROCESS
You and your teacher will work through this Web Quest together. Work through this Web Quest in order. Do not omit any of the steps. Your teacher will have all work sheets available for you. You will not be able to down load the work sheets in the Quest this time.
1. Make a portfolio, using construction paper, to keep your Web Quest work in. Be sure to keep all your Web Quest work together, ready to turn in at the end of the Quest.
2. Go to "Parts of the Flower" web page, listed under "Related Links". Study the parts of the flower and read the definitions for each part of the flower. Your teacher will give you a work sheet for the parts of the flower vocabulary. Write the definitions for each flower part listed on the work sheet.
3. Open web site www.urbanext., listed under "Related Links". This web site will ask you to solve a mystery. You will solve case #4. Always click "next" at the bottom of the screen to go on to your next set of clues. Your teacher will give you a work sheet for taking useful notes and defining any new vocabulary you may happen across in solving this case.
4. Go to "Flowering Parts" Read carefully and take notes. Left click on blue words for definitions. Write any new vocabulary words and definitions.
5. Go to "Pollination" Write notes as you read and don't forget to list and define new vocabulary.
6. Go to "Non-Flowering Plants" Write notes as you read and, again, don't forget that all important vocabulary.
7. Play "What Are the Parts of a Flower"
8. Play "Do All Plants use Seeds to Reproduce"
9. Investigate "Inner Workings of Plant Reproduction" Your teacher will give you your flower and work sheet.
Play the match game.
10. Go to "From Flower to Fruit" Read, take notes, and define vocabulary.
11. Do the Activity - Name that Fruit Your teacher will give you your work sheet for this activity. When finished, check your answers. Write the correct answer by any that you missed.
12. Using the "Flower Picture" listed under "Related Files", draw and label the parts of a flower. Your teacher will provide you with a printed copy of the picture.
13. Using the "Name the Flower" work sheet, provided by your teacher, name the flowers in the pictures. Use the name: Monocot and Dicot.
14. Go back to www.urbanext, listed under "Related Links" and answer the questions on the work sheet your teacher will provide. You may have to search through the entire case to find your answers. Good Luck!
Culminating Activity:
You will plant flower seeds to grow for the plant square in our school's outdoor foyer.
Steps will be added before you finish the Quest.
