Chapter 2 Review Guide:

Be able to explain:

·        Examples of acids, bases, neutral solutions (based on lab)

·        Where on the pH scale is each?  (#’s)

·        The properties of water (based on lab)

·        The two parts of a solution and give an example – like saltwater (Which is the solvent? for example)

·        How to neutralize a strong acidic or basic solution

·        What pH do living things usually prefer?

·        List the 4 organic compounds and their function in living things

·        Which atom makes the difference between organic and inorganic chemistry

·        Both bonds and how they hold atoms together (ionic and covalent)

·        Which carbohydrate is the source of energy for all cells?

·        Label the parts of an atom and the charge on each subatomic particle

·        The difference between monosaccharides, disaccharides and polysaccharides

·        How animals store excess sugar

·        How plants store excess sugar

·        How to use the periodic table to find the number of protons, neutrons and electrons in an atom of each element

·        Sketch a molecule of water including its atoms, charges on each atom and bonds (BIG question!)

  • Study your study guide and worksheets!  Vocabulary is important.
  • Review your book’s questions.  I like to steal those!
  • Be here!  Making up the test is usually more difficult and means you have to find your own time to do it!  (Refer to the class syllabus for make up procedures.)
