2nd semester options
Do any or all of the following choices for extra credit: Choice 1: Bring up to 5 boxes of tissues for 5 points per box for a maximum of 25 bonus points. The classroom reserves are low, so all boxes are due by the end of the first grading period, February 13. Good way to start the semester off with a few bonus points! Choice 2: Attend a presentation on January 23 at 7 p.m. in the PAC. As has been our long-standing tradition, we will welcome the Voyageur Wilderness Programme. Belleville East High School, in coordination with other area schools, has been working with VWP since the early 1970's to provide a deeply impacting experience for students in Canada's Quetico Wilderness Park. Each year, this not-for-profit environmental education program visits BTHS East to present a captivating video slide show on the history and ecology of the boreal region (a.k.a. Spruce-Moose Forests) of western Ontario, environmental issues of the Great Lakes region, and the opportunity for students to participate in a true wilderness experience. We like our students to attend this lecture because it gives a glimpse of biology's purpose in the larger context (i.e., understanding and maintaining biodiversity, health, and quality of life in a sustainable, enjoyable, and cooperative community of people). Attend the presentation and write a brief summary along with the points you most liked and any you didn't like by Tuesday, January 27 to receive a maximum of 25 bonus points!
