Welcome to Third Grade Website May Newsletter Assalamu Alaikum Dear Parents,
Math: We are learning Chapter 10 "Divide by 1 - Digit Numbers". Students are covering these concepts:
Science: We have covered chapter 8 "the Sun and Its Planets". In addtion to the Sun, Earth, and the moon, there are other bodies in space.As welearned in chapter 7 that Earth and the Moon orbit the Sun, in this chapter we will learn about other bodies that orbit the Sun. Students are presenting their science projects about the nine planets this week. We will be doing our test over this chapter next Tuesday May 28th. Social Studies: e have learned hapter 8 "Citizens Make Communities work" (184 - 201). Students have explored that communitieste across the country has a government. Governments make laws that help people live safely and fairly. People also help each other by doing volunteer service. Learning about the government and citizenship makes people responsible for their communities. Our Social Studies test will be on Tuesday May 22. Islamic Studies: Quran: We memorized Surat Al-Inshiqaq during the month of April. I'll be testing the students on this Surah on Thursday May 3rd. Many students are almost done memorizing Jus Ama Masha'Allah. There will be a Quran memorization testing on the first week of June for this Jus. Please encourage your child to work on the surahs he/ she still needs to memorize,so they can move to the next Jus next year Inshallah. I gave you a copy of the Quran chart in our 2nd term conference, so you can follow up with your child in the surahs he/she needs to work on. Let me know if you have any questions about your child's progress in this matter. Since we finished the surahs that assigned for third graders, students are interested in learning Surat Al-mulk in class. We will be memorizing this surah Insha'allah during the month of May. Please check 3rd grade website and click on the curriculum link to get an idea about the surahs your child supposed to know so far. Here is a wonderful website that your child can listen to, to help him/her catch up on their memorization: www.Quranexplorer.com Lessons: We are learning Unit D: "Prophet Muhammad in Makkah”. I tested the students' understanding and knowledge on chapters 1, 2, 3, 4 (pages D2 - D 48 from the textbook and pages 60 - 68 from the workbook) . Now we are focusing on chapters 5, 6, 7: The boycott against Muslims, Al-israa'Wal Miraj (the heavenly trip), and the faithful wife Khadija bint khuwaylid. (pages D 50 - D 75). Our test for these three chapters will be on Tuesday May 8th. Please review from the textbook, the workbook, and answer orally the questions pages 59, 71, 77. Arabic: We are covering lesson 6: "Al-Lisan" pages 54 - 62. Our Vocabulary test for this lesson will be on Monday April 30th. Your child had the list of the words on his/her Arabic notebook. Our spelling test will be on Monday May 7th. Students should be able to spell the sentence on their Arabic textbook (PG 61, Number 9). I will also test them on spelling the duaa on page 62 from the textbook as optional. (I'll count it as extra credit). Our test for this chapter (Reading comprehension and grammatical rules) will be on Monday May 21st. For reading comprehension, please review form the workbook pages 72, 73, 75, 76, 78, 79, 80, 82.
